Our Story
In 2008, Owner/Chef Michael Cohen had a simple idea.... open a neighborhood restaurant, that serves quality food. Since opening, Chez Mike has come to be best known for its warm hospitality, and fresh, seasonal American cuisine.
In addition to the ever evolving seasonal menus, Chef/Owner Michael Cohen’s off-the-cuff cooking style is always highlighted on the daily specials board which is constantly changing according to the season’s best offerings.
After graduating The Culinary Institute of America in 1999, Mike worked for 2 years in Atlanta, GA at the 4 Diamond/Mobile 5 Star Seeger’s Restaurant. It was there, under the tutelage of world renowned Chef Gunther Seeger, that Chef Mike learned the craft of simple, fresh, seasonal cooking. Later, he worked at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. At the Four Seasons, Mike learned the extreme importance of going out of your way to ensure guest satisfaction. This has come be one of the signatures of our restaurant.
Over the years, Chez Mike has become one of the Capital Region's most beloved restaurants. We have received fantastic press and recognition. Including "Rising Star Chef"...Albany Chefs Food & Wine Festival. We have also won numerous awards as voted by readers of Capital Region Living. Some of these include #1 restaurant in Rensselaer County 7 years in row, Best Wait Staff, most romantic, and best drink (Our Blood Orange Margarita). Chez Mike is also proud to be acknowledged as one of the "75 Essential Restaurants", according the Times Union.
